CONNEMARA

As the population plummets, residents of Loch Con Aortha, in Connemara, in Ireland, say that they have given up hope of being saved.

Connemara village writes its own positive obituary - Irish Times

The residents of the Connemara village believe that neither the Minister for Rural Development Michael Ring nor any of his colleagues have the will to save it, and it is time to record its obituary.

Loch Con Aortha is famed for making good poitín - a strong alcoholic drink.

Too many people have emigrated from Loch Con Aortha.

The village's population is now just 50, and only 20 of these are under 65.

Land is worthless.

"EU habitat directives have made land virtually worthless, as it cannot be worked without specific permissions."

The primary school was closed in the 1970s.

The area also lacks essential services such as high-speed broadband.

Connemara – the school musical!

While power is concentrated in Dublin, and Brussels, areas like Connemara get neglected.

Connemara need to become an independent state.

Then it can lure in investment and top entrepreneurs.

  1. So sad to hear this about so beautiful Connemara...
    Picturesque, right, and calm.

But pls do not compare to Monte Carlo :
uncomparable, two different worlds, in Monaco little rain, not like in wet and gloomy Ireland haha. ( Been in Monaco, Monte Carlo ).

    Greetings from France ;-)
